      <image:caption>Dr. Bishop completed an undergraduate degree in psychology at Wheaton College, subsequently pursued graduate training in counseling psychology at the University of Iowa, and completed a  doctorate in clinical psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology.  Dr. Bishop has specialty certification in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and in addictions by the Illinois Certification Board.  His clinical interests have included work with children, teens, adults, diagnostic assessment and addictions.  He has taught a broad variety of graduate psychology and counseling courses over the past 21 years at the Adler School of Professional Psychology, Northern Illinois University and Wheaton College, as well as internationally in Russia and Ukraine.  He has lectured and presented training seminars and workshops nationally and internationally in Europe and East Asia.  His research and publication interests have included addictions, psychometrics, clinical training and supervision, and the integration of spiritual values in psychotherapy and supervision.  His interest in online education was sparked by opportunities to translate, develop and deliver several traditional face-to-face courses to online and blended online formats.  He has enjoyed facilitating student learning in the virtual classroom environment as well as being part of improving the development and delivery of online courses as a reviewer for the Quality Matters program. Dr Bishop's philosophy of teaching is guided by his interest in being a life-long learner.  He has an insatiable curiosity to understand people and learn about how they function, which is why the field of psychology has appealed to him so much over the years.  In the formal classroom learning environment, he particularly enjoys the process of collaborating with adult learners as they work to find ways to bring new knowledge and understanding to address their own curiosities.  Dynamic discussions of concepts, constructs and issues, whether face-to-face or in an online forum keeps the learning process intriguing and helps students deepen understanding and to move toward creating new points of view.  The successful learner is one that actively engages with others, asks questions relevant to the topics of interest in the course, and provides perspective informed by life experience and empirical data grounded in careful scholarship.</image:caption>
